Joanna Aguirre brings something rare in philanthropy to Sovereign Good: she harnesses the power of communication strategy to leverage complex ideas that, when untangled, can close the gap between good intentions and real-world impact.

As a Founder and Partner of Sovereign Good, she brings more than a decade of disciplined market strategy to a firm built on the conviction that philanthropic capital deserves the same rigor applied to its narrative as it does to its numbers. Her experience spans the full arc of how ideas earn adoption — from B2B product positioning and SaaS go-to-market strategy, to national sponsorship activations, rebrands, and political communication — giving her a rare fluency in how institutions, communities, and individuals decide what to trust and what to fund. At Sovereign Good, that fluency becomes a strategic asset for clients who are not just deploying capital, but building narratives that last.

Her career has moved across some of the most demanding marketing environments in the country: B2B product marketing at Zelle/Early Warning, where she helped shape go-to-market strategy and translate complex concepts into compelling marketing narratives. Joanna has also led sponsorship and experiential strategy at Allstate, where she executed national activations tied to major soccer partnerships — navigating tight timelines and high visibility — to drive measurable brand awareness. At the Chicago White Sox, Joanna managed relationships with Hall of Fame players such as Frank Thomas, Carlton Fisk, and Minnie Miñoso in support of Chicago White Sox Charities. She also supported activations around current player charity efforts, connecting community engagement to brand awareness while considering the intersections of disinvested neighborhoods, civil rights history, and sports management. Across each chapter, the through-line has been the same — strategic positioning that holds, authentic narratives that move people, and systems that make adoption more likely.

A first-generation Mexican American who grew up in the near-west suburbs of Chicago, her work has always been shaped by an understanding of what it means to navigate institutions not built with you in mind — and how to build ones that are.

She is a recognized voice on women's empowerment, consistently awarded for her exceptional collaboration skills and authentic leadership in the workplace. She is building this firm on the belief that good strategy, communicated well, can move resources toward the people and communities who need them most.

Joanna holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Latina/Latino Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Business Administration from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. Her academic background in Latina/o studies gives her work an intersectional lens on how systemic inequalities can overlap and thus be detangled, bringing those commitments into every client engagement and into the culture of Sovereign Good itself.
