Overview of Firm
Sovereign Good is a Chicago-based philanthropic advisory and consulting firm led by four Principals. Launched in April 2026, the firm works in philanthropic advising, strategic planning, governance, and communications. As philanthropic advisors, Sovereign Good brings seasoned expertise, lived experience, and the unshakable belief that philanthropy done right does not simply respond to the world's most urgent problems: it reshapes the conditions that create them. As philanthropic consultants, we apply that same expertise to inspire audacious giving across the sector with integrity.
Collectively, the firm’s Principals hold decades of deep experience, and each of the firm's service areas are informed by work they delivered inside philanthropic institutions, funder collaboratives, affinity groups, universities, community lenders, venture capital, insurance, and sports philanthropy.
For philanthropists, Sovereign Good's strategy is centered on how institutions can define, evaluate, and communicate progress. For nonprofit partners, the firm understands how to build and sustain long-term partnerships because of its experience coming from and working in communities directly impacted by philanthropy. For disinvested communities, Sovereign Good aims to protect and defend the sovereignty they hold over their own futures.
The Opportunity
Sovereign Good believes in planting seeds toward our vision, and we are beginning this new chapter with an offering. Sovereign Good aims to provide our services pro bono to one philanthropic/funder client, with the engagement tentatively scheduled for October 2026 through March 2027. Details regarding the requirements for proposals can be found below.
The deadline to apply for this engagement is Friday, October 2, 2026 at 11:59 PM CST, and all responses must be submitted by email to hi@sovereigngood.org or by submitting the application below. Please include the headline, "Pro Bono Philanthropic Advising - Sovereign Good 2026." Sovereign Good will interview applicants to discuss organizational fit, the applicant’s preparedness for the upcoming project, and the long-term impact of our services.

Philanthropic Advising
Sovereign Good’s philanthropic advising services include Strategic Planning, Governance, Grantmaking, and Communications. Those who are applying for a philanthropic advising engagement identify as philanthropic funders, donor-advised fund managers, family offices, or individual donors. Successful applicants must be actively seeking to or currently directing grant funding to communities in need in the United States. Applicants who are in the early stages of their philanthropic journey, have not identified issue areas, or have yet to make their first grant are welcome to apply.
Sovereign Good’s philanthropic advising is “issue agnostic”, and its Principals leverage an extensive network of philanthropic professionals to inform our advising practices.
Engagement Details
Sovereign Good will provide services for one of the following pro bono between October 2026 and March 2027. The project deliverables will be completed on or before March 2027.

Program Evaluation
Brand / Narrative Strategy for One Issue Area, Project, or Program
End of Year Strategic Grantmaking and Reflection
For this engagement, deliverables with a long-term scope such as organizational rebrands or a multi-year strategic plan are not included. These services are considered or defined as paid long-term engagements that require additional due diligence, time, and resources. Sovereign Good reserves the right to select one pro bono project or no project at all if none of the applications are substantially aligned. Submitting an application is not a contractual agreement to receive pro bono philanthropic advising or service. After an applicant is selected, Sovereign Good will follow up with a service agreement.
